Theres plenty of good suggestions to make local go away - all we need is CCP to grow some balls to implement it.
Whether its one of the following:
1. A deployed personal module like a probe scanner that shows people in local in a proper none chat hud. 2. Electing to remove yourself from local and remove your acecss to local 3. A sov module deployed in system providing list of people in system 4. A ship module or rig
whatever it is it would be a vast improvement to non-consentual pvp. |

whatever it is it would be a vast improvement to non-consentual pvp. The moment you undock you have consented to PVP by default. Context - Im referring to PvP in which one party (pve nullbear) wants to use local as an infallible early warning system and dock at the first instant a non blue appears in local. They dont consent to PvP because they have a 100% reliable way to avoid PvP. |

Been AFK cloaking in peoples null systems for a few weeks now. I killed a lot of ships, had a bit of banter, some smack talk, got killed twice.
You're probably thinking "wait you can't do that while AFK!" and thats exactly right but as I explained to the angry pitchfork holding, torch waving locals I can't really be expected to jump 90 jumps round trip every day dodging gatecamps and bubbles and they won't let me dock in their stations.
I can't be expected to log off and on politely in space while they sit AFK in their stations, giving them free intel while denying me theirs.
We have to AFK its the logical thing.
Really if it bugs people so much let people dock, least you'll know if they're in space or not. If not then HTFU. |

I think a compromise is in order. Remove local and add fuel bay and fuel to cloaking. Add an expensive destructible sov module that can be deployed to enable local again with a limit of one or two per constellation, and a 5 second delay each jump away from the module.
My corp is an AFK cloaking corp, this would both benefit and harm my corporation but I think as a whole would add more tactical options to null.

Stop whining about a mechanic when it's your own attitude to it that is at fault. I'm not complaining about cloaks. I'm complaining about AFK players. I want AFK players to be warped to deadspace and marked in local as such, so it's the equivalent of logging them off but still allowing them to be logged on (to log chats and save hassle). I have no issue with cloakers. Thanks for the well thought out response though. This should apply to AFK station people as well. Many null players AFK in station. When I'm travelling in null which lately is pretty much always there's a station every couple of jumps with players AFK. They can be there 23 hours a day.
What this means is every couple of jumps I have to run the AFK or Not gauntlet either stopping travel, run the risk they're cloaked at a gate rather than AFK in station and red rover it and risking getting blown up or find a longer way round.

The thing is the system is not shut down it just is not completely safe. There's a big difference. The only thing I do sympathize with is the hotdrop fear but thats an issue with hotdropping and not cloaking. |
